Environmental Health Services: 309-246-3053

The main goal of the Environmental Health program is to protect the public's health through education, program services, and enforcement when necessary.

Food Sanitation Services
We inspect and license food service establishments and educate personnel to ensure compliance with sanitation code to protect the consumer.
Water Protection Program
We ensure private, semi-private, and non-community public water supplies (such as wells providing water to schools and restaurants) provide clean, safe water. Our staff issues and reviews permits, inspects systems, and tests water samples.
Private Sewage Disposal System Program
We issue and review permits, inspect systems, and provide information to home owners about proper care of their septic systems. We also monitor and inspect sewage pumping contractors.
West Nile Virus Monitoring
Environmental Health staff provides Vector control services by providing education on mosquito control and West Nile Virus, as well as conducting active surveillence through mosquito testing and bird testing.
Other Services
We also inspect tanning salons to ensure they are sanitary and operated in a safe manner. Our sanitarian also responds to nuisance complaints such as rodent control and solid waste disposal.
